Residenz 2024/25
Residenz 2024/25
With the Residenz-venue, Schauspiel Leipzig provides a production and performance venue for projects from the fields of performance and experimental theatre, an extension of the range of Leipzig’s theatre that adds a vital component: The aim is to open Schauspiel Leipzig up to experimental forms of presentation on stage and co-operation with independent groups consisting of interdisciplinary teams.
There is an equal focus on nationwide networking and international co-operations on the one hand and the dialogue with Leipzig’s scene on the other. And this is what we have planned for this season, too. Co-productions with partner institutions from across Europe will inform the programme, but Residenz also allows local artists from Leipzig to take new steps and venture into unknown territory.
The programme will continue the analysis of topics that were already addressed in previous seasons: colonial heritage, racism and experiences of discrimination, and the political contradictions of our times. And it takes a critical look at pop-cultural experiences of past and present eras. In this analysis, questions about the possibilities of a contemporary ethics of artistic work are becoming increasingly relevant.
Smaller formats like the popular “No Lights No Lycra”, readings ranging from critical reflection on the present to pop-culture, or the small-scale but exquisite concert formats complement the programme.
The continuation of the project KATAPULT – Performance Plattform Leipzig is a special matter of the heart for Leipzig; this will be its third edition. While the KATAPULT-festival marks the crowning conclusion of the season, Residenz, Schaubühne Lindenfels and LOFFT – DAS THEATER are in close communication throughout this year: They select the most exciting projects from among all submissions, they plan and produce their projects and they prepare a festival that will present a stimulating performance spectacle to the audience.
Co-production partners in 2024 / 25:
Dampfzentrale Bern, DE SINGEL Antwerpen, LAC — Lugano Arte e Cultura, LOFFT — DAS THEATER, Pathos München, Schaubühne Lindenfels, SPRING Festival Utrecht, Théâtre du Vidy Lausanne, Théâtre Saint-Gervais Genève, Wiener Festwochen
