GROUP 50:50 (Basel/Berlin/Lubumbashi) / Artists in Residence
// GROUP50:50 is nominated in the category "Genrespringer" for Deutscher Theaterpreis DER FAUST 2023.
At the UN Climate Change Conference 2022, the three largest rainforest states on earth agreed on a climate partnership. Shortly thereafter, the Congolese president published a law that officially recognizes and protects the rights of the autochthonous peoples in the DR Congo. But how will this law now be implemented? So far, the Mbuti, the largest indigenous people in the rainforest of the Congo Basin, have hardly raised their voice at the international level. GROUP50:50 travels to Haut-Uele Province to visit the Mbuti community it met while researching its last production, "The Ghosts Are Returning" (euro-scene 2022). With climate activists and members of the Mbuti community, they present a series of performances, concerts, screenings and conversations about a complex ecosystem that is slowly coming apart at the seams, about care and loss, about what we have inherited from previous generations and what we will leave to future ones.
GROUP50:50, a collective from Congo, Switzerland and Germany, has developed a post-documentary form of music theater based on extensive documentary research on economic and political transnational interconnections, working to transform them through music, performance, conversations and political interventions.
