„Spieglein, Spieglein, halt's Maul, wir müssen nachdenken“
with texts of Ada Berger and Liv Strömquist
The title character of Grimm’s fairytale “Snow White” is characterized by one thing above all: her extraordinary beauty. Skin as white as snow, hair as black as ebony and lips as red as blood turn her into her stepmother’s rival. The aging woman feels her entire existence to be threatened and wants to get rid of her young successor. The attempted murder is only foiled by seven dwarves and redemption by a young man’s kiss of true love. Female solidarity or the relevance of inner values are nowhere to be found. These are circumstances that still determine today’s market of attractiveness.
As a woman, you don’t need to be an evil stepmother to be horrified about what the mirror of society tells us every day. Ada Berger and Liv Strömquist give a voice to women who reflect on these social expectations – beautiful and ugly women, old, young, extremely communicative women, famous, entirely unknown, envious, empathetic, suffering, cheerful, questioning, complex and multi-dimensional women, all played by Paulina Bittner.
