In the work-presentation “Hold on to your dead”, director and performer Caroline Kapp explores the question of how to hold on to her dead. Not an easy question, since the dead women in her family are all in various stages of decomposition underground. Her family? So are the dead anarchist women who seem scattered across the earth. It gets messy. Together with a collective, she develops forms of holding on, which she wants to share this evening. Because why let go of the dead when we would still like to have them among us?

“Cremation, forbidden by all religions in Lebanon, is therefore illegal. And citizenship is contingent on belonging to a religious community.” In this show, performance artist Lina Majdalanie plans to have surgery and then have her severed limbs burned, turning her bodies into a battlefield where the promise of freedom and modernity clashes with nationalist and communitarian forces.
